Running Attire Review: Oiselle

All of us modeling our Oiselle gear - we were given 2 T-shirts each as part of the swag!!

In August when I was blessed to be able to attend Kingston Adventures Women's Retreat, one of the companies present for us to review was Oiselle.   French for bird and pronounced "wa-zell" this one woman start-up company (now boasting several employees) is bridging a gap in women's running wear.  The story of how things began is inspiring - here's a snippet:

"So why a new running apparel company?  Our first year in the market was 2007, however, the idea for Oiselle started several years earlier. After two kids and six years of “just running,” I was ready to train and race again. But what I thought would be a quick trip to the running store to buy new shorts ended in disappointment. Too poofy, too baggy, too high-waisted, and all wrong in the color department. Over time – and many a long run – that disappointment became an idea. Not only about new women’s running apparel, but also about a new kind of company. One that would draw from my ten years’ experience of branding and marketing for both startups and Fortune 500 companies, and cross-pollinate with the ideas and skills of a select group of partners. So in the end, the question became not so much why a new running apparel company, but why not? —Sally Bergesen, Founder

+ CEO (Full Story Here)"

Me at the Kingston ReTreat with Sarah. Looks like fun!!! All of us at the ReTreat got to try things on, touch and feel, ask questions, and take a peek at what was coming out in the future.

We then became the panel and were asked for our input on sports bras - yes, they took notes, and yes, I know they'll use them.  I was approached to actually use a pair of their shorts for our trail run and absolutely jumped on the offer.  I'm a skirt girl more because of all the reasons listed above - the reasons Sally started this company.  I hate the fit of the shorts I've tried but the skirts tend to have wider waistbands, sit lower, are more streamlined and less baggy.

My mind was about to be blown. Enter in the Roga Shorts!!!!  "The Roga Short is an Oiselle classic. A super flattering yoga style waistband combined with weightless running shorts...  If you haven't run in the Roga yet you'll understand the revolution as soon as your run in your first pair. No poof, super streamlined, one rear zip pocket, booty flattering wonder short! - with drawstring - technical liner with integrated pocket - 4” inseam - rear zip pocket - four way stretch for full-motion - flatlocked inseams - machine washable"

On the trail run!! I'm far right.... I FREAKING LOVE THESE SHORTS!!!

Honestly, if I could afford a few more pairs (they run $44 per pair), I'd be easily convinced to get rid of all but one of my running skirts, all of my running shorts, and just use these.  They are amazing.  Ten miles of trails just outside of Seattle in 80*+ weather and LOTS of humidity is what I put these through.

Then, since they felt like mine, I jumped in the pool with them on!!  The Oiselle girls (who I absolutely adore and am still in regular contact with) nearly had to pry them out of my hands.....  OK, she DID have to but I absolutely didn't want to run again without them!

I bought a pair, but since I could only currently afford to purchase one at a time, I wanted my first pair to be black.  Black wasn't available to ship until October.  I waited.  All summer I ran in sub-standard shorts waiting to put these on.  They arrived last week!!!!!  I've gotten to run several times in them - and although I always pray the weather won't get too cold, I'm praying harder now.  So sad to think they'll have to sit in my drawer waiting until next Spring......  But at least I have them!

Me in my shorts post 6 miles this week!! I was not paid to write this review.  I review stuff because I genuinely love it and want to pass that on to other runners.  That's just how groovy I am!!
