Choose Happiness...Rock Your Body

Yes, it's a Justin Timberlake song

He also sings about bringing Sexy Back.  What is sexy though?  What is beautiful to one person may not be to another.  Again, society berates us with false images of what we "should" be but truly, it's so much more about how we feel about our bodies than conforming to what we believe other people want.

Skewed body images are everywhere

Stop Listening to Your Demons - Push Through Them Instead

The insidious thoughts in your head urging you to quit...

Your inner demons.  I'm too fat. I'm too thin.  I'm too short.  I feel like an amazon.  I will fail.  I am not good enough.  I will never be able to finish.  My abs aren't as defined as hers.  I am not smart enough.  I don't make enough money.  My body doesn't fit my personality.  These jeans make me look fat.  I will look stupid.  People won't like me.  Why did I attempt this?  People will laugh at me.  I can't make it.  Who I am is …

An Eye-Opening Guide to Heart Rate Zone Training

There are benefits of training in every heart rate zone. Here is an eye-opening guide to heart rate zone training.

Being on a team means there are people at varying levels of running fitness, speed, etc...  I am fortunate to be able to run with elite athletes going pro and athletes just beginning their fitness journey.

How Do You Balance?

I've mentioned in the past how difficult it is for me to miss a workout. I try to plan them early in the morning or on evenings the kids are otherwise occupied. Still, there are times when life gets in the way and I have to make a choice.

Here's the conversation:

"Mom, it's Gabi.  You said you would take Ashlea and Me to get a bunny.  Can we go tonight?"
"If we go tonight I'll miss my run.  Let's look at another day."
"You said the next night we could go.  This is the next night.  We really, r…

Finding Your Motivation

In the past, I've trained with groups and alone.

I have to admit my entire life I've had moments of wondering if there was a place I "fit in".  Where I felt at home.  I make friends slowly but the few friendships I have are strong and I treasure them.  When I joined Endurance Reno 19 months ago, I did so with excitement and trepidation.  I was hoping I would meet like-minded people and make connections but I had no idea how profound this team would be in my life.

The relationships I've form…

Gratitude Is All About Attitude

374518_10151868598173473_964361226_n

It's that time of year. People are posting their "Days of Being Grateful".  I want to feel that gratitude all year long. Gratitude is all about attitude.  I GET to be on a team. I GET to run. I GET to do triathlons. I GET to have this big, crazy, fun, wonderful family. I GET to go to work. I GET to pay my bills, I GET to feel happy.  I GET to be thankful. But here it is. My short but important list of things I'm thankful for.

My family.  It's not like any other and thank goodness for that. …

How to Journey On

I'm moving. It's everything I remembered it was and more!! Although moving isn't necessarily a negative, it's still a change. It will take a couple of weeks total, but even after only 3 days of bringing loads back and forth, I can attest to the fact that I'm not entirely certain which house my things are at. I'm camping out (not as much fun as my kids make it out to be!) and had to scrounge a pillow last night.  When bringing loads back and forth I realized that putting items in that fit instead…

Making Sure You're Not Full Of Crap

Traveling disrupts my body.  I would hazard a guess that I'm not alone in this yet every time I travel I'm surprised.  My body is a well-oiled machine.  Between getting older, attempting to remain healthy, my hysterectomy and menopause (aren't you glad I'm writing about this??!!) I've figured out a system to keep everything running smoothly (HAHAHAHA!!!).  I'm not a night person, so around 9 pm I start my downward spiral into oblivion fraught with drooling on myself.  I'm up early with tons of e…

How to Embrace Life as it Happens

Indeed. Life happens. When it happens smoothly, all is well.  When life hiccups, when it's hard, even moments that aren't difficult can seem insurmountable.  I'm planning a move in the next 6 weeks - although I haven't found a house yet- so my kids can be in a better school district.  I'm going to my family reunion in a few days - the first in 9 years - thanks to my Grandmothers generosity and my tax return.  With that tax return, I got all the work done on my 9-year-old van - which was far more…

What You Can Learn From Compound Interest

Most people have an understanding of compound interest. At the very least it makes sense when purchasing a car or a house. It's the beastly number followed by a % that makes you're cute little house go from $180,000 to $5,678,326 after 30 years.  I adore compound interest!!  All life can be related to this theory. Last night while running, my lovely teammate Kristen - who is the same age as my older daughters so unbeknownst to her, she has been adopted into our family - told me I'm in good shape…
