Runner's Life: Gastro Issues

I put the laundry in last night. It included my gym bag that I bring to my shop.  I bring a change of clothes for my Tuesday run to work and swap the sweaty stuff for the clean. As I was doing the change from washer into the dryer/hang up I saw my headphone cord. And I nearly pooped myself.....  OK, maybe I did just a little... That can mean only one thing. OK, a couple things. One, my iPod and Garmin are also in the washing machine. Two, I'm a space-shot and angry at myself because after nearly…

Running for A Cause: 10K for Sherry

Over 20,000 race bibs were printed for todays virtual run

Today thousands of people all over the world ran for Sherry. Her story is heartbreaking, maddening, discouraging, disheartening.  It is a fear buried within each runner that burst to vivid life when Sherry went missing.  It's quite likely that the earth truly did move today as over 20,000 bibs were printed.

I ran a 10K today in honor of Sherry.  It was 42*, drizzling and overcast.   The weather kept most people off the bike path and in warmer environments today so it felt lonely out th…

What Inspires You?

A blogging friend of mine, Marcia asked a question: What Inspires You??  In life, who or what has inspired you to want to be more.  I get a little choked up about this subject... My 3rd grade teacher, Miss StJean was the single biggest inspiration in my life.  I had a difficult upbringing and when I entered her classroom I felt like a different person.  She made me realize I was smart, I was kind, I was capable, I was special, unique, a treasure and most of all that I was worth it.  Things on t…

Great Questions for Reflections of 2011

The year in review stolen borrowed from these great questions posed by www.simplemom.net 1. Single best thing that happened? My entire family drove to Arizona in April to visit my sister.  She's one of the best people in my life and we hadn't visited in over 6 years.  Now it's an annual plan.  I missed her desperately and I'm so thankful all our kids are reconnected. 2. Single most challenging thing that happened? Lillie, the little girl we'd had in our custody moved to a different foster home.…

Have More Loves than Hates

I've written a couple reviews and blogged about my favs or must haves. But there is life outside of running. (GASP, CHOKE!!! WHAT??!!) It's true. There are some things in my life I love and some that I detest. Here's a snapshot. I LOVE my gray, v-neck cashmere sweater. It's delicious. Yummy. And I got it at a great second hand store for $11. I love it all the more for that. I LOVE my deep eggplant purple silk Ann Taylor long, ribbed tank top. Also delicious. Got that one for $3.... It feels like…

Runners Tale in Alaska: Over the River and through the Woods

Time for another run on break from court in Alaska. A new direction, new day. I was fortunate to be running on the Old Glenn Highway (Arctic Street) in Palmer. It's difficult to explain how unique Alaska is. People are very laid back and the pace plods much more slowly. In my day to day life as it is with most people, I think about what time I have to get up, when I have to be there, how long will it take to get there, how long will this last.... Everything seems to be determined not only in inc…
