A Review of My Favorite Running Gear

I've done gear reviews for almost a decade - even though the blog is only going on 4 years old. When we minimized and moved, I really had to evaluate the stuff I had accumulated - often because I was doing a review.  I pared running gear down to only what I really used on a very regular basis.

Not that you will love what I love (we're all unique after all), but if I can guide you to a product that's amazing, how cool is that?  I don't make any money off these reviews, I don't get any free p…

My Favorite Running Gear - Reviews

One of my favorite things to read about is reviews by actual runners.  Women preferably since I'm a woman.  I want to base my purchases on what people like using and why - so I can make educated choices.  I've made countless (and I'm not exaggerating here - countless) purchases based on what other people liked.  I've also done my own research due to a situation (trail running, training after injury, needing to carry an inhaler, etc....).  Reading reviews turned into writing them.

Then we deci…

How to Buy the Right Running Shoes

Buying shoes is a runner's favorite thing to do. I actually had to unload 3 pairs of shoes I purchased right before my foot broke. I'd worn each of them just a couple of times and it's heartbreaking to let them go, even though I knew I could no longer wear them.

I used the money from selling them ($40 each) to buy a new pair of shoes.  Sure, the 3 to 1 ratio kind of stinks, but it was far better than letting them sit in my closet.  These 3 had to go: My podiatrist (who is also a marathon ru…

The Secret to Fresh Smelling Laundry

I remember my Grandmother hanging clothes out to dry. It seemed nostalgic for me.  Romantic even.  The process of bringing it out into the sunshine, hanging it, listening to it rustle in the breeze, taking it down, folding it.  I thought my Grammy had the best smelling laundry ever.  Then I helped and realized it's a pain.  It rains, the wind kicks up dirt and you have to start over, some clothes feel so stiff that I thought folding them would make them crack.....  Still, she had pretty nice sme…

The Flip Belt Review: Carry it All With You On The Go

I caught wind of this gadget a few weeks ago.

Generally, I carry as little as possible and I prefer to not have anything around my waist (can you say runners bloat?). Runners get creative when carrying things.  Keys to the locked car??  Tied on my shoelace.  Credit card, ID, and cash??  Tucked in my sports bra.  iPod?  Clipped to my shorts.  Phone?  In the car because it's bulky, heavy and it bounces.    I either leave things behind or find a creative way to hide/carry them.  Especially in s…

Lava Pants Review: Are They Worth It?

I was fortunate enough to steal borrow a pair of these last summer for a triathlon.  My teammate Pete had them and RAVED.

Xterra's Lava Pants are gaining in popularity and I'm glad I got a chance to try them out prior to owning them. But are they worth it? My triathlon went well and I did indeed love wearing Pete's Lava Pants.  (even though he accused me of stretching them out!!)  At the triathlon, people asked me about them and of course, I gave them the info that Pete had told me.  I am, af…

Product Review: Running Attire

Ready to tackle the wind and 9 miles! Yes, I track my favorite companies on eBay in the hopes of getting a great deal.  I scored this - new - for $41 which is exactly 50% off and used money I had in my PayPal account from selling a few things.  Double score.  The Athleta running shorts I got some time ago and it's finally warm enough to wear shorts.  Oiselle makes the jacket and also makes my favorite Roga Short for running, but I love to try new things and Athleta is an amazing company.

The model is Sarah. I spent 3 days at a running retreat with her nearly a year ago. She's delightful, fun and very fast and she loves her job

Read this Review Before You Get FitRadio

After the Leprechaun Chase, I came home and ran another 4 miles. A 7-mile day isn't too bad. It warmed up to 60* but got pretty windy. Still, it felt good to be out. I've wanted to try an armband for my iPhone.  SAFETY FIRST!!!!  It's important to carry it for safety reasons, to pretend I'll answer it for the kids (actually, I usually do and they can tell immediately that I'm running), to occasionally listen to music, to use an app if my Garmin is DOA or I forgot it.  I didn't want to spend $30 …

Running Gear Reviews

Today at Reno Running Company's Sunday store run, we got to try some gear.  First, I tried my new Saucony long sleeve, 1/3 zip pullover that my ex-husband bought for me yesterday at the REI garage sale for $17.  Weird to some people, but he and I have children together and we've remained friends despite getting divorced.  The top was a lovely surprise and it was very comfy.

I happened to wear my new Saucony 1/3 zip, long sleeve today. Under the vest I tried.

The only thing NOT Saucony wer…

Don't Miss These Top Picks For Running Gear

Compression:  Recofit Sports is the only company I use for compression.  I've tried a lot of compression gear and it just didn't do it for me until these. Shorts:  Oiselle Roga Shorts - the only shorts I just love.

RecoFit Compression sleeves and Roga Shorts!

Oiselle Roga Shorts and Mizuno Wave Precision shoes

Skirt:  Only running skirt I love is Running Skirts.  Has shorts underneath OR panties which I actually prefer.  I've abused mine for over 6 years and still love it.
