Plastic Surgery Story: Fantastic Boobs!

I had my boobs "fixed". That's another way of saying augmentation, boob job, lift and tuck, put back, re inflated... Yup. I'm not even a little ashamed. I have to admit, I'm not big on plastic surgery. I have always felt that if you spent life eating healthy, staying active, using sunscreen, getting in the required fruits and veggies, attempted to get enough sleep, played often and laughed a lot you could age gracefully and beautifully. When I was in my late 30's struggling with the impending 4…

Self Care for Women: Let Em Hear You Roar!

We aren't "just" women. We're women, we're wives, we're mothers, we're employed, we're maids, we're nurses, we're chefs (albeit not always good ones...). We carry life inside us, we nurse them, we nurture. We support our husbands, we love them, when times get tough, we try to remember all the reasons we fell in love with them. We stick it out in good and bad. We work and sometimes we don't like to but even those of us who do still feel the drain. We clean our houses, cook meals, sign school pape…

My Reason for Running

I’m a badass bitch that owns the road. I feel the wind on my face, the sunshine on my back, and watch it dance in the trees. I feel my calves ache, my heart pound. I taste the thick, slimy, salty, metallic saliva in my mouth.

I feel euphoric, invincible, exhausted, alive. My feet pound the earth and I feel as one with the world around me. There are moments when I feel I can’t go on but I push those thoughts away. I know there lies a place just beyond where peace reigns supreme. My happy place.…

Runners Tale in Alaska: Over the River and through the Woods

Time for another run on break from court in Alaska. A new direction, new day. I was fortunate to be running on the Old Glenn Highway (Arctic Street) in Palmer. It's difficult to explain how unique Alaska is. People are very laid back and the pace plods much more slowly. In my day to day life as it is with most people, I think about what time I have to get up, when I have to be there, how long will it take to get there, how long will this last.... Everything seems to be determined not only in inc…

Running on Location: Dragonflies, Moose and Bears - Oh My!

I am in Alaska for the first time in over 6 years, visiting a dear friend and testifying in a trial. A trial that turns my stomach, makes a non-cryer breakdown and sob. It is a necessity to be here and I feel privileged to be able to. But it is heart-wrenching.

I loved Alaska when I lived here for nearly ten years. She expects a lot from those that stay here with her. I needed more heat in the summer, the winters felt grueling and long, but ultimately it was the desire for my children to grow u…

Runners Log: First Half Marathon

I’m 37 years old and I ran my first half marathon today in Chico, CA. It was a beautiful drive there and Chico was amazing. Groves of trees, cows, horses. The 13.1-mile path was 2 laps thru Bidwell Park. The trees were huge, gnarled beasts. It looked as if they just dug in and held on. It occurred to me as I ran that that was what I needed to do. Dig in and run. I’m never trying to beat anyone, but I want to win. Win a feeling of accomplishment, self-respect, pride, more confidence, and higher s…
